My name is Jade Meyer, I make artworks that are dream-like and surreal. I incorporate those dream elements into every piece of art that I create. The idea of distorting reality is fascinating to draw or paint because it gives more freedom and less restrictions to what I envision. I make these artworks so that people can appreciate the obscurity and the dreamlike atmosphere. I want my artworks to be memorable and to be open to interpretation to the viewer.
In most of my artworks color is significant to me because it catches the attention and helps to lead the viewer’s eye around the artwork. Mostly bright color palettes and colors that contrast each other for example, the sword stabbing the heart shows the contrast of the colors red and blue with hints of yellow. From the example there is an organic subject that is interacting with the object to create an interesting composition that I try to achieve in each of my artworks. The inspiration behind the artwork is from what I see in history such as Frida Kahlo and from other cultures. In the artworks I get inspiration from textiles and patterns from different cultures. There is not a specific culture that I research more of, instead I look at a collection of those textiles from an array of cultures that interest me more.
